“Wait! What?”

God is Love. Love is perhaps The Father’s greatest virtue:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

True love requires choice. God is Holy. Holiness is separation from evil. For us to have an alternative to God - which allows us to choose to love Him or not - God must allow evil to exist. Evil is our alternative to God!

“Without the ability to say no, there is no meaning to yes!”

And evil in the world causes all the pain and suffering.

When Jesus was asked “what is the greatest commandment?”, He quoted Deuteronomy 6:5: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

Without the alternative to God - evil - we could not fulfill the greatest commandment. All that’s required for eternal life with God is that we choose Him - and we are commanded to choose to love Him!

“OK, but why does James 1:2 say “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,”? I’m sorry, but my experience is that I hate trials!”

The story of Jesus with the “Rich Young Ruler” helps shed some light on that question.

A wealthy young man walks up to Jesus and asks how to go to heaven. Jesus said keep the commandments. (The interesting thing about that statement is that it was a test from Jesus. If anyone was able to keep the commandments - Jesus didn’t need to go to the cross to pay for our sins.) The young man arrogantly said he checked all those boxes.

Jesus doesn’t just listen with His ears - He also listens with a stethoscope - to the heart. Knowing the young man held tight to his possessions - he told him to sell them and give away the proceeds and come follow Him. Sadly, he walked away - holding tight to His possessions.

One could say the Rich Young Ruler had achieved the American Dream and was probably pretty comfortable - he did not like the idea of “take up your cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23)

When Jesus explained the problem of The Rich Young Ruler to His disciples He said it is easier “for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven.” they asked “then who can be saved!!!???” (If you have been taught “the eye of the needle” is a gate in Jerusalem - don’t worry, Satan has taught a lot of lies - God wants you to learn the truth. Jesus was talking about a sewing needle.)

Jesus calmed them and answered the problem of The Rich Young Ruler in just a few words: “And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26

The whole point is that man cannot “save himself” - only God can.

But the reason we should consider struggles “joy” is for two reasons. Without struggles, we would all be Rich Young Rulers - and respond to Jesus with - “thanks for your offer - I’m good…” (so be careful of achieving the American Dream!)

And the second reason we consider struggles joy is: “knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

James 1:3-4

How was that possible? They had been together for 3 years! Peter saw the most amazing miracles! He even declared Jesus to be “the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). He knew!!!

In the same chapter - just after Peter “nailed it” by declaring Who Jesus really is, why did Jesus respond to Peter so harshly when it appeared that Peter was only trying to be kind? “From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.””

(Matthew 16:21-23)

Do you have sin habits that bother you? Do you hurt others you love - perhaps with anger, manipulation, workaholism, or an addiction? Do you fear what others think of you? Does it boggle your mind how you could love Jesus - and want to tell others about Him - but that dang porn habit keeps creeping up to bite you? Why can’t you just stop it?

God is Spirit. He sent Jesus to earth in the form of a man so that we could relate to Him. We have a very hard time relating to the spirit realm! While on earth, Jesus was the physical representation of God the Father. He set an example for us so that we could carry on His work of being the representation of the Father to others.

Satan is also spirit. He mimics everything God does - but for evil intent. Just as God works through humans - with what we say and do - so does Satan. God uses Christians to do His work - as well as non Christians. And so does Satan. The question is are you trained to tell which is which?

Here is what happened just before Peter denied he even knew Jesus:

““Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” But he said to Him, “Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!” And He said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.””

Luke 22:31-34

We all know about Peter denying he knew Jesus. But how many Christians know it was a direct result of Satan attacking him? What did that attack look like? The Bible doesn’t say. But we do know that the devil attacks in our mind. He plants thoughts to get us to do things and say things that we would not have said or done if left alone.

That is why Jesus said “get behind Me Satan!” Jesus knew the source of Peter’s plea even if Peter didn’t.

So, what about your sin habits that you would “do anything to become free from”?

Yes, faith in Jesus sets us free from eternal separation from God - but if we are ignorant of the schemes of the devil or the truth of our Identity and Authority in Christ - we can remain in bondage while on this earth.

Truth of the fact that Christians can remain in bondage is: “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

The prophet Hosea declared that God said: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.“

Hosea 4:6

It’s been said that Christianity in America is 5 miles wide and 1/2” deep. It is the reason the whole nation is headed in the direction it is. Not due to non believers - but due to believers with a lack of knowledge - and putting their faith in action.

Today, Asa would be considered to be a “Good Christian”, yet, he still had that nasty mark on his epitaph: “but the high places were not taken away…”

It was the high places that were Israel’s downfall, and eventually became Judah’s as well. A high place is anything we worship at a level with - or perhaps even higher than - God (Idolatry). Israelites recognized Yahweh as their God but practiced “syncretism”. They kept some of their “gods” of old.

Most of us have been raised by - and ardently followed - the lie of the American Dream. Not that America hasn’t offered amazing possibilities in comparison to other cultures. The lie is that achieving the Dream will bring joy and happiness. Our suicide rate, along with rates of depression, addictions, and mental illness should expose that lie for what it is.

But the truly sad thing is that few of us ever recognized that for most - pursuit of the American Dream - was our high place. We can see it in our passion for the “best possible kindergarten” for our children - then all the way through college - then rise to the highest in your career that you possibly can - because hopefully you will have 20 years after that to spend it on yourself in retirement.

What about God through all of that? No problem. You can choose to follow God while you pursue your Dream - or you don’t have to - after all, it’s a free country! It’s so easy to get caught up - and never grasp the true Purpose God had in store for us.

With that perspective, what then is our “high place” is it the One True God, or perhaps, something else?

The books of Kings and Chronicles are epitaphs for most of those kings. It is probable that we will have something similar - we call it an obituary.

Do you “do right in the sight of the Lord”, but still keep your “high places”?

Will the people who read your obituary be able to identify who or what you worshipped? Business success? A medical profession? Gardening? Grandchildren? Boats? Hunting? Fishing? Golf? The Cottage? Your dog? Or the newest one - Pickleball?

There is nothing wrong with loving your grandchildren (in fact we encourage you to do it well!), or gardening, or any of the things listed. But where will those things fall when your loved ones want to tell us about you? Are one or more of those things actually your high place?

We often allow earthly things to impede our relationship with the Father because we don’t understand our Purpose. For many, pursuit of the American Dream is our Purpose - with Christianity as an add on.

We will not walk in Freedom - and bear the maximum Fruit - unless we embrace our true Identity - and therefore - our Purpose.

He communicates like a “gentle blowing” (1 Kings19:11,12).

Jesus said “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27).

A shepherd knows sheep are skittish. If he speaks harshly they will be afraid and scatter. A good shepherd is able to speak softly and lovingly so his sheep will follow him.

Knowing the Word of God is foundational to learn the Shepherd’s voice. Sadly, some say our ability to hearing His voice is limited to knowing scripture. If that were true, there would be no validity to “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God..” (1 John 4:1). We need to know and listen!

How do we hear from a spirit to test it? There are times in scripture and reported times throughout history where humans have heard the audible voice of God but both cases are rare.

Holy Spirit’s more common method of communication is a clear complete thought that occurs in your mind. Sometimes it is difficult to discern whether the thought is your own, or from Holy Spirit. Spiritual maturity will help develop discernment, but initially, it isn’t that important. What is important is the testing of the spirit or thought.

Evil spirits attempt to imitate God and in so doing, often create a mirror image. Mirror images are the opposite of the truth. Everything Satan does is the opposite (lie) of the truth.

There are rare times where evil spirits will manifest (show) themselves but they prefer to remain in hiding. When they try to plant a thought in our minds, they attempt to imitate Holy Spirit and gently place the thought there - hoping we will think it is our own - and entice us to act on it. They are seed planters.

They plant seeds like “it’s late, she had a headache and went to bed early, the kids are in bed, no one will know”, “My boss is such a jerk”, “these drivers are all “a” holes!”, “if I tell them what happened I will loose my job”, “I know planes rarely crash but with my luck this one probably will”, “no one will ever love me”.

So, how do we know when it’s an evil spirit or the Holy Spirit? As mentioned above, knowing the Word of God is key. But there are some passages that can help us get started:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23. Does the thought create good fruit?

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Holy Spirit will never condemn you. That’s Satan’s job. Holy Spirit loves you more than you can possibly comprehend - even in your sin. Holy Spirit will convict you - to help you heal and be a better representative of the King. Conviction is different than condemnation.

As long as we are on this planet, we are in a spiritual war. The war occurs almost totally between our ears. What we do with our thoughts determines the trajectory of our life. Holy Spirit plants positive thoughts. Evil spirits plant evil thoughts. It really is that simple. The only question is, now that the seed is there, will you water it or eradicate it?

1. Recognize - we must recognize whether this thought is from an evil spirit or Holy Spirit - and we must do it in nanoseconds! If not, we may be watering evil seeds.

2. Reject - when we know this thought did not come from Holy Spirit - it is evil! Reject it!

3. Replace - our minds cannot remain empty. Replace the lie of the enemy with the Truth of God - “I am loved”, “God loves that person - who am I to judge them?” “Fear is a lie of the devil”, “I am so valuable Jesus died for me!”

4. Repeat - this isn’t just a battle - we are at war. If Satan planned to return to tempt Jesus again - the devil will return to tempt you.

It is also true that Evil Spirits obey God. Yes, that sounds very weird, but they do. That truth lends even more credence to the importance of these words. There are rules in the spiritual realm and the spirits obey them.

The first important word to help you achieve Freedom from the lies of the enemy is Permission.

“Then the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him.” So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord.”

Job 1:12

When that plan didn’t work out Satan returned to God:

“However, put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face.” So the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life.”

Job 2:5-6

Praise God for the faithfulness of Job because we learn that Satan even failed the second time! But note, in both cases, Satan requested Permission - and God’s Sovereignty was so precise and specific that He allowed Satan to harm Job’s body but not kill him.

It is very well known that Peter denied he even knew Jesus - and Jesus had prophesied that it would happen. But it is interesting to note that not many Christians know that Peter’s denial is the direct result of Satan’s thrashing of Peter - which God gave Permission for:

No doubt that Satan is very gutsy demanding Permission, but he did ask for it. In this case, it would appear that it may have worked - Peter denied he even knew Jesus - but as we know from scripture, God had other plans:

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result.”

Genesis 50:20

We can’t comprehend the pain Peter experienced knowing that Jesus knew he denied Him, after living with Him for 3 years! It was that pain that tempered Peter to become one of the greatest Apostles.

So, if God requires that evil spirits achieve Permission to do what they do, what are the sources of that Permission? We can see from the above that God does give permission, but scripture indicates that is very rare.

Our own sin is the most probable cause. By definition, when we sin we “come into agreement” with evil. There may be no more powerful scripture on freedom than James 4:7: “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” The reason he will flee from you is you didn’t engage in the temptation he offered - meaning he did not receive Permission. This does not mean that every time you sin an evil spirit has received permission. It simply means you are opening the door to them if they are present.

Unforgiveness and Bitterness are huge Permission doors to the enemy. We do not naturally want to forgive. It is an act of faith. It is actually submission to God that allows forgiveness to happen. We are believing/trusting God that He will deal with the situation as He see’s fit - so I don’t feel I need to hold the other person “accountable”:

“Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.” Romans 12:19. By the way, forgiveness is simply declaring the offending party owes you nothing. It has nothing to do with forgetting. Remaining Bitter is actually Unforgiveness.

Believing the lies of the devil opens doors. He wants to “steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10). If he can get me to doubt my salvation - or that God doesn’t love me due to what I’ve done, I am actually giving evil spirits Permission to torment me even to the point of depression and suicide.

It is a hard pill to swallow, but our ancestors may have given evil spirits Permission to torment us. Many accuse bad behavior to “bad genes” - which is a lie - or negative influences of parents, etc. While it is true that parents can influence their children to sin, often times they have given a spirit permission to torment themselves as well as their offspring. Examples are every form of sin: anger, lust, gossip, fear, control and manipulation, addictions, etc.

It’s not “fair”, but trauma can give evil spirits to torment us. It actually isn’t the trauma itself, but our response to it. This can be divorce, rape, death of a loved one, an accident, etc. When we are mad at God and blame Him, or hold anger, etc, we are again coming into agreement with evil and unknowingly give them permission.

Active Rebellion and any activity in the Occult (Ouija boards, lucky 8 balls, fortune telling, Tarot cards, witchcraft, etc.) are all access points to invite evil spirits to torment us.

All of these permissions can be revoked.

The second key word in the demonic realm is Authority.

As a Son or Daughter of the Most High God we are Princes and Princesses in His Kingdom. And all spirits know it. They just don’t want us to.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”

1 Peter 2:9

“The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.”

Luke 10:17, 19

“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”

Matthew 28:18-19

Whenever we see the word “therefore” we need to ask what is the “therefore” there for?

Jesus’ “therefore” is directly connected to all Authority being given to Him. Authority over what? Certainly the spiritual realm. The Luke 10 passage along with the Matthew 28 “Commissioning” extends that same Authority to the Sons and Daughters of God who are indwelled by His Holy Spirit and invoke the name of Jesus.

This is proven in the book of Acts:

“But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” Seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?”

Acts 19:13-15

The reason the evil spirit did not obey them is because they were not Born Again and did not have the presence of the Holy Spirit within them. When we have the presence of the Holy Spirit combined with the power of the name of Jesus the evil spirits know exactly who we are. We have Authority by the power of His name.

In 2021 Maverick City Music produced a song titled “I Thank God” where they sing “I am Free!” multiple times. That type of phrase is fairly common in Christian songs today.

Spiritual Warfare expert Neil Anderson states that in over 40 years of significant Freedom Ministry (including his epic Bondage Breakers book - among many others), only 15% of Christians are actually Free.

So, the question is - does putting my faith in Jesus and being Born Again make me Free? Sadly, the answer is both yes and no.

Maverick City is correct in celebrating that “Hell lost another one!” So, Freedom from the ravages of hell and eternal separation from God is very real - and when your faith in Jesus is sincere, we are Free from that.

But, what is Anderson talking about?

“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

John 8:31-32

There is a lot going on in that verse. Notice Jesus said that to people “who had believed in Him”. By definition, one who believes in Him is Born Again. If I am Born Again, can’t I sing the song “I am free! I am free!”?

Not necessarily, according to Neil Anderson… or Jesus.

Jesus seems to be addressing another level of Freedom. These people were already Free from Hell. So, if that’s all it takes His statement should be redundant and unnecessary… and we know that is not the case.

Jesus didn’t say “if you read My word”. He said “if you continue” in it.

The book of Hebrews is a letter written to all the Jews who had put their faith in Jesus. It was written about 30 years after Jesus’ Resurrection. These are interesting words:

“Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.” Hebrews 5:11-14

This was not written to Pastors, Elders, or Missionaries. It was written to all of us.

It does not say - who because they “read their Bible once in a while”.

It says “who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.”

Now, ask your teen if they have practiced their piano, or shooting free throws, or their math equations. Jesus said If you continue in it (practice).

On May 28, 2024 pollster George Barna said this:

“Biblical worldview incidence has declined with each of the last five generations. During that time, the national incidence of adults holding a biblical worldview has plummeted from 12% to today’s 4% level.”

“Our studies of teenagers and preteens indicate that the national incidence will drop another two points within the next 15 years, unless some dramatic and unusually effective spiritual renewal event occurs,”

Barna’s research includes believers and non believers. Hopefully, those percentages shock you and help explain why things we think are absurd - most of the world thinks is perfectly normal.

In Paul’s letter to Ephesus he writes: “in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.” Ephesians 2:2

Paul is talking about Satan and his demons. He is saying that until we put our faith in Jesus, we “walked according to the course of this world” - which he explains as demonically inspired. Barna calls that a “world view” - how we see things - which is created by Satan.

Putting our faith in Jesus does not erase all the cultural worldview we have acquired. The statistics for stress, anxiety, worry, fear, mental health, divorce, and even suicide are not that much different from Christians and non Christians. Some of that can be explained by “posers”, but much of it is believing we are Free when we put our faith in Jesus - but the statistics and experts say we may not be as Free as we can be.

The only way you can acquire a Biblical World View is to “continue in His word” and “practice”. If we don’t, we will not be equipped to discern good and evil. We will not be equipped to “renew our minds” (Romans 12:1,2)

Scripture says in the end times evil will increase. Are you equipped? Are you totally Free from the lies of the devil? Anderson’s experience is that only 15% of Christians really are - and only 30 years after Jesus - the writer of Hebrews calls them a bunch of “dull of hearing”, “milk drinkers.”

Should there be a measurable difference in Anxiety and Fear between Christians and non believers? Statistics show there isn’t.

The difference between a non believer and a believer is Faith. We said God makes sense. Jesus makes sense. His word makes sense. At some point, you looked at Jesus and said: “Jesus, I believe You are who You say You are.” That is a statement of Faith and results in Salvation (Romans 10:9,10).

Anxiety, Worry, Stress, Fear are no different than looking Jesus in the eye and saying “I trusted You with my Salvation, but I just can’t trust You with this situation.”

Let that sink in.

Anxiety, Worry, Stress, and Fear are chains of the devil meant to keep you from walking in Freedom. What is the solution?

Jesus said “IF you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31,32)

The only reason for a Christian to live in Anxiety, Worry, Stress, and Fear is because their God is not big enough. If you don’t know His word, He will never be big enough. This isn’t a matter of Salvation. You know in your heart Jesus is Lord and you declared it. Mic Drop!

God created us in His image. Man has tried to return the favor from the beginning. We try to recreate God into our image. Our humanity is our point of reference. It is why we create Superman and Batman and lots of human based superhero’s. But God isn’t human. He is much bigger than we can comprehend. Is your God big enough?

Jesus said: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

(John 14:27).

Stress, Worry, Anxiety, Fear are the absence of Peace.

Faith and Fear are on the same continuum. Faith is the opposite of Fear. Scripture says “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Hopefully by now, we understand that our Purpose is to bear fruit for the King and represent Him well. He promises to pay us very well for our services (Matt 6:19-21). That payment will last through all of eternity.

Jesus said unless we are connected to the Vine we cannot Bear Fruit (John 15:4).

We cannot sin and be connected to the Vine.

Habitual sin is enslavement to Satan which is Disconnection from the Vine which is Lack of Freedom - which always reduces Fruit.

Our Freedom determines our Fruit. No amount of sin is ever worth trading what God offers us for all eternity. Our sin today has both earthly and eternal consequences. This isn’t about Salvation - we can’t earn heaven. It is about our ability and suitability to serve The King.

“So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”

Psalms 90:12

We will all stand before Him to make that presentation. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

However, we also have our weaker areas where we tend to sin more frequently - for many it is a habit we try to “keep under control”. Satan wants us to believe we are stuck with it and we should just manage it to a respectable level. But God commands us to Bear Fruit for the Kingdom and our Fruit is in direct proportion to our Freedom. How much treasure do you want to store up in Heaven? (Matthew 6:19-21) Remember - we will be there for all eternity!

Your Freedom determines your Fruit!

So, let’s do some eradication rather than “management”:

1. Develop good daily Spiritual Disciplines of Alone Time with Father - Word and Prayer. Acknowledge God’s glory with an attitude of gratitude. Pray through yesterday’s calendar and today’s and all the events and projects you have going on. Also pray through your list of loved ones, those who need healing, and ongoing issues that matter. Use First 15 and Freedom In Christ apps as daily devotionals and for daily discipline. Put on your armor daily! Embrace your Identity as a Son or Daughter of the Most High God!

2. Take EVERY thought captive. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Eliminate evil thoughts. No fantasizing. No ruminating on how they upset you! Replace with truth and positive thoughts. “I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not fasten its grip on me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil.”

‭‭ Psalms‬ ‭101‬:‭3‬-‭4‬

“To keep you from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the adulteress. Do not desire her beauty in your heart, Nor let her capture you with her eyelids. For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread, And an adulteress hunts for the precious life.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭6‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ ‭

Replace with Fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22 and Philippians 4:8.

3. Confess and repent to a spiritually mature man (or woman in the case of women) who will hold you accountable.

4. If there is evidence of evil spirits (strong compulsion even if you resist - a habit) command them to leave verbally in the name of Jesus. If you are Born Again through faith in Jesus (Romans 10:9,10), you have Authority over them and they know it (Luke 10:17-19). They just don’t want you to know it or even know they are there tempting you. Refill with Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:43-45). Ask Him to fill every crack and crevice in you they have vacated.

5. ELIMINATE every source of temptation. No suggestive TV, movies, social media, video gaming, music, cruddy buddies, etc. You are what you eat. You are a product of your environment. Satan knows that. It’s why he subtly fills us with so much crap. It is hard to find entertainment without sex (even suggestive) or violence. Every school shooter feasts on violent video games. Coca Cola spends billions on advertising because it works. Do not believe you are immune. Satan is betting on that.

Prayer: “Father, give me Your heart to love what You love (people), and hate what You hate (sin).”

Spiritual Warfare expert Niel Anderson states that only 15% of Christians are walking in Freedom. They are Warriors for the King and have broken free from the lies of the devil. They are obeying Jesus and storing up treasure in Heaven. (Matthew 6:19-21)

The biggest blockage to Bearing Fruit for the King and storing treasure in heaven is Fear Of Man. Fear of man is at epidemic proportions. “What will they think of me?”

Eliminate Fear by taking Authority over the spirit of fear and commanding it to leave. It has tormented you too long.

As a Christian, you have read the word Love 76 times in just the four Gospels. As a Christian, we are taught a lot about Love. Praise God for His Love! “For God so Loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” (John 3:16). Thank You Lord for teaching us Biblical Love!

As a Christian, you have read the word Pray 58 times in just the four Gospels. Praise God for prayer! Now that the veil is torn (Matthew 27:51) we have direct access to the Father! Praise Jesus for teaching us how to Pray in Matthew 6! Praise Jesus for providing many examples for Prayer as in the Garden of Gethsemane: “…and fell on His face and prayed…” (Matthew 26:39). This weekend was particularly gratifying. While serving a Road Home Men’s Encounter (theroadmap.org) there was a man in attendance who was at the lowest point of his life just 30 days ago. His uncle intervened and asked if he would read the Field Manual. Knowing he was a professed atheist, this was a big ask. He read the book and and was so convicted that he signed up and attended the 4 1/2 day Men’s Encounter… and was baptized in the name of Jesus!

It is paramount that we know and understand that word well.

Man attempted to build a tower to get to heaven. God destroyed it and scattered the people because His plan for restored Relationship with Him will always be of Him - not anything we do.

Jesus said “whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”. (John 3:16)

Paul said “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Mic Drop - there is no need to add anything to that statement!

Satan was tossed out of heaven due to his pride. Pride is self focused. Humility is other focused.

While Satan was tossed out due to his Pride, Jesus chose to leave heaven due to His Humility - because He was focused on us.

We are commanded to imitate Jesus. “For I am gentle and humble in heart.” (Matthew 11:29). We are also created in the image of God. (Genesis 1:26)

Everything the enemy does is the opposite of God.

The enemy is attempting to recreate us into his image.

Every religion that is not of Christ according to the Bible is of Satan. The proof is that every false faith is works based. We can see Satan’s fingerprints on them by the fact that every single one of them is based on what their followers do to earn whatever type of heaven, nirvana, or next life they offer. The source of putting the emphasis on what we do is Pride - which came from Satan.

The one word that is totally unique to true Christianity is Grace.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works.” (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Sadly, we need to qualify (true) Christianity because our enemy has even polluted much teaching within the Christian faith. There are actually very few Christians who really understand that our salvation is by faith alone through grace. While most will say belief (faith) is foundational - they will often add a works component to it - which plays right in to Satan’s hand.

Proof of our salvation by grace alone is “the criminal on the cross”. After committing heinous crimes and casting insults at Jesus, he said “Jesus remember me when You come in to Your Kingdom” and He said to him, Truly I say to you today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:42,43). The criminal believed and confessed with his mouth. Mic Drop.

In Matthew 6:20 Jesus commands us to “store up for yourselves treasures in heaven”.

Are we just supposed to “be” a Christian? You know, believe in Jesus and be a good person, go to church, pray, read our Bibles, stuff like that?

It’s actually pretty amazing how much scripture speaks about what we are supposed to “do”, now that we are a Son or Daughter of the Most High God!

In fact, it could be said that Salvation is Kindergarten! It’s where it all begins!

The very first parable Jesus spoke - which is found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke is the Parable of the Sower. Jesus explains the parable in Matthew 13:18-23. The whole point of the parable is that we exist to “bear fruit” for His Kingdom! We are the soil! How reproductive is yours?

Another key parable Jesus teaches is the Parable of the Talents found in Matthew 25:14-30. Instead of a farming perspective, this one is more of a business theme. The Manager (Jesus) gives Time, Talent, and Treasure. He leaves for a while. When He returns He asks us what we did with the Time, Talents, and Treasure He has given us. The reward He gives to those who invest wisely is significant. He puts the good servant in charge of even more. (Perhaps in the Kingdom of Heaven!).

However, we should all take notice of the one who stuffs his “salvation” ticket in his pocket, goes to church, puts some money in the plate and manages his sin so he is respectable. Jesus called him wicked and cast him into the outer darkness!

This issue is important enough that Paul spoke of it at least twice. If you ever got nervous when facing final examinations, you may want to pay close attention to this one. Paul teaches us 2 times about the Final Examination of our Lives!

In 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 Paul explains that EVERYTHING in our lives will be passed through fire. Whatever is “worthless” will be burned up. Whatever is valuable - like precious stones, silver, or gold - will pass through the flame - and just like Jesus told us to “store up treasures in heaven” - we will receive a reward for what passes through!

That message was important enough to Paul that he repeated it in his second letter to the people of Corinth in 2 Corinthians 5:10!

Jesus used another farming example in John 15:1-11. All of these passages are worthy of serious meditation, but this one is the pinnacle. It is all about the need for each one of us to Bear Fruit - and a warning if we don’t. Verse 2 says: “every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away.” It is highly unlikely that Jesus was referring to an unbeliever when He said “every branch in Me…”

Not only that, but Jesus actually said “if you state you believe in Me - prove it - by bearing fruit!” Verse 8 says: “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.”

Some say if we are filled with Holy Spirit our fruit will “just flow”. If that were true, there would be no need for the above passages.

Are you investing in your 401k or an IRA? If they are available to you and there is some form of match, you would be foolish not to.

But, are you investing in God’s 10,000,001k Plan? Don’t just trust Jesus for His promise of Salvation. Trust Him for ALL His promises!!! You will be glad you did!

Our Heavenly Father is very protective of His Identity. He does a lot “for His name’s sake”. In the 23rd Psalm it says “He makes me walk the path of righteousness for His name’s sake”. In Ezekiel chapter 20 God said: “but I acted for the sake of My name.” And repeated it three more times in that chapter!

We are created in the image of God. Since God’s Identity is very important to Him, our Identity is very important to us. 

The first thing Satan attacked in the garden was God’s Identity. His character is His Identity. Satan caused Eve to question God’s character.

Satan attacks our Identity relentlessly. He knows that our Identity is key to our Authority.

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,”

Many struggle when they hear the Holy Spirit told someone to do something. Are they just using that as a power statement? After all, if God told me to do it I’d better do it! Are they just making me feel bad by implying they have a “hotline” to God - but I don’t?

“I’ve heard about “listening prayer” but I was warned about it because how do I know if it’s demons who are speaking?”

Paul commanded us to “pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17. How do I do that if all my prayers are just petitions to God? Doesn’t He get sick of me just asking for stuff? Besides, I run out of things to ask for!

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

1 John 4:1 

How do I “test the spirits”?

“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Romans 8:14 

Some say being led by the Spirit of God means knowing God’s Word and being obedient to it. But is that all? If we have the Bible why did Jesus say it’s better for Him to leave so the Holy Spirit can come and guide us?

“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.”

John 16:7

How does He “Help” us?

“Then Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel.”

1 Chronicles 21:1 

How did Satan “move David”? Was it an audible voice? Did Satan use a person to plant the idea? Did Satan simply plant the thought in David’s mind so David thought it was his own?

Is it possible that Holy Spirit and evil spirits are trying to plant thoughts in our minds all the time? Is it possible that the origin of the thought might not even be our own?

Jesus often said “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Matthew 11:15 

“But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,”

1 Timothy 4:1 

Many believe we are at the end times of “the end times”. Do you have “ears to hear”? If thoughts are placed in your mind by “paying attention to deceitful spirits” are you equipped to discern?

Can you identify the Holy Spirit when He speaks to you?

Does that means he is ranking them ahead of the others? Perhaps, but more importantly, it should cause us to examine ourselves to ask where we stand in regards to Courage and Faith.

It seems like you can count on 2 fingers the number of Hollywood stars and politicians who have been able to remain off Epstein’s list. Yet, it is doubtful that many of them entered their profession thinking they would end up there. So, how did it happen? Fear of man over fear of God. They feared more the loss of their power, position, or fame than how God would feel about them. They thought they had to “go along to get along” and in so doing sold their soul. 

Satan used perhaps his greatest weapon - fear. More specifically - fear of man. 

There is a reason the word fear appears almost 300 times in the Bible. And there is a reason Courage appears almost 100 times.

It was from a rooftop - when he was supposed to be at war - that the “man of God’s own heart” crashed as bad as it gets. He committed adultery and attempted to cover it up with murder. 

Jesus was a warrior. Paul was a warrior. They knew their Purpose and their weapon was Truth. They used Truth to war against darkness and drive it out. 

The reason we have a porn epidemic is because too many of us have been  Rooftop Christians. We don’t understand our Purpose just like David lost sight of his. 

We are Jesus’ replacements! That is our Purpose! He gave us His example to follow! 

Sadly, the success of the American Dream has softened all of us. We listen to the lies of the enemy and believe it is the pastor’s and missionary’s job to “spread the truth” - because we “didn’t get called to ministry”. 

If you think you may have been living on the roof - Get off it! Take up the sword of Truth and get in the battle. Because “You will never do on the battlefield what you might be willing to do on the rooftop”. 

“But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the Lord” 2 Samuel 11:27 

Take your sin very seriously. It cost David dearly.

Because you don’t love Him perfectly. 

“I trust You God for my salvation, but I just can’t trust You with this…”

It’s true, God does love you perfectly but we will only experience the peace that Jesus paid the ultimate price for when we obey His Greatest Commandment: 

“And He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” Matthew 22:37 

Jesus also said ““If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” John 14:15 

That is Perfect Love. That is Peace. Shalom!
